Old Hickory Village Home Tour Returns to Its Historic
Roots
by Allison Baird
The 2007 Historic Old Hickory Home and Garden Tour is set for Saturday, May
19th. This year’s tour features five of the original ten styles of homes built by the DuPont company in 1918, including
three Arlingtons, one Bay Tree, three Haskells, one Georgia and one Cumberland. This year’s only contemporary home is
a brand new “seaside colonial” with breathtaking views of Old Hickory Lake. Seven of the historic homes have recently
been restored and updated with modern conveniences. One has even been chosen for an upcoming episode of A&E’s program
“Find and Design.” Another, which was under construction for last year’s tour is nearing completion and
returns for the public to view. Although the floorplans on these homes may have all begun the same, they have all changed
and taken on new lives over the years.
The Old Hickory Art Center also returns as a new tradition to the
Historic Home Tour. The Art Center is open to Old Hickory residents daily. A couple times each year the center opens its doors
and offers paintings by local artists who use the center for purchase. These works include water color, oil and acrylic, large
and small of innumerable subjects. Proceeds from the sale will provide for supplies
and other needs for the center. Many of the pieces available were recently featured on the popular NPT program Tennessee Crossroads.
In addition to the homes, you may also take peek in to many classic cars
that will be parked throughout the Village. Local acoustic singer songwriters will provide entertainment and if you’re
hungry you can stop by the Mason’s Lodge for its annual Fish Fry from 11-6.
Tickets for the Historic Old Hickory Home Tour are $12 and will be on
sale at the Old Hickory Library at 1010 Jones Street from 10-4. The tour runs until 5pm. Proceeds from home tour fund a large
portion of Historic Old Hickory Village’s budget for the year. Show your Village pride by purchasing an Old Hickory
hat, coffee mug or T-shirt at the library the day of the event. Thanks for your support.
